Power BI online update without gateway

Hi! I am trying Power BI pro, we are a small company (less than 5 employees) and, for now, we dont have servers to install the Data Gateway, is there any way for Power BI online to connect directly to the data sources? (MySQL) without having to install an always ON machine locally?

I cant find where  to configure the credentials online (in power BI desktop everyting works great!)

Hi there

You would need to install the Gateway on any PC that can connect to MySQL, and ideally have it running 24/7 so that if it is to be refreshed overnight it will still run.

I still need the Gateway if the databases are available over the internet?

As I said before we are a few programing mostly in Python, the PCs that are on 24/7 are Linux machines.

There isn't a solution to refresh without a gateway with databases available over the internet? (or...maybe some alternative to run the gateway native on linux)

Unfortunately it has to be a Windows PC or Windows Server for the Gateway.

But...if I have my servers on the internet do I have to:

internet->gateway->Power BI

instead of:

internet->Power BI

Yes that is correct, it is because your servers appear to be not on the internet from a Power BI perspective.

Thank you, that is the thing I don't understand...my servers are on the internet (GCP/AWS) open to anyone with the correct credentials, why PowerBI can't see them without a gateway?
