Power BI not showing data modelling menu pls help

Hi All

I am completely new to PowerBI.

I am baffled with the versions of power BI, I am following microsoft's PowerBI pdf document, and other online tutorials.

As I understand there are three versions of Power BI :

Desktop

Pro and

Premium

Apart from the above there is a version that ships with O365 that is installed by the business - this is the version I am using.

I am accessing PBI from apps.powerbi.com with 0365 account.

But I cannot see data modelling  - where once can build relationships between various tables - menu in my version.

Do I need a Pro licence atlease or need installing Desktop version.

I will be creating dashboards and sharing across the business aswell.

Do I need something else to see data modelling etc .. also my version is very slow and lagging.

Any help / guidance is much appreciated.

The modeling is only in the desktop.  Personally, I would use the desktop version for all development and then publish your report to the web for sharing.  There are many features besides modeling that are available in the desktop version that are not available in the online version.

Thanks!

Hope this helps!

Hi @klloyd3 ,

Firstly, the three versions of Power BI are Desktop, Service and Mobile apps. You could reference the document:What is Power BI?  for more details.

Pro and Premium are the licenses of Power BI Service.  (Reference: Power BI service features by license type )

The website ( apps.powerbi.com) that you signed in is Power BI Service. If you want to transform your data and create visualizations, you need to install Power BI Desktop. And then publish to Service after creating report. You could create dashboard in Service but you need Pro license for sharing.
