Power BI in a Cloud

Hi, everyone.

I have a question, It is possible to use power BI with a repository directly such as SQL Server or Datawarehouse in Microsoft Olap, or I am forced to connect to the Azure services.

Thank you very much

@MontsePuig

If you want to connect on-premise SQL Server or SQL Datawarehouse, you just need to install the On-Premise Gateway. Power BI has Cloud Gateway Service which can find the Application Gateway via Azure Service Bus. For more details, please see: On-premises data gateway in-depth.

Hi @MonstePuig,
For source connection, you could connect to sql server or another source in on-premise and using enterprise gateway for refreshing. The list supported source you could check https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-data-sources/
When you publish Pbix file to power bi service, it's cloud. But MS has informed another deploy approach to allow publish Pbix file to reporting service 2016 as on-premise deployment solution. Its in technical preview now https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/sqlrsteamblog/2016/10/25/announcing-a-technical-preview-of-power-bi...
And the plan is mid-2017 for GA as my observation.
