Power BI and Teams integration

Hi everyone,

I tested the Power BI / MS Teams integration with a couple of people and it's great.  Now, I want to extend this feature to all users with a Power BI Pro license in our organisation (around 100 people).  We have an O365 group for that purpose.   However, our Azure Tenant Management Team says that we can not use a group to grant PBI visibility: it should be made one user at a time !!

Is there a way to do this using an AD or O365 group ?   Or to automate it using PowerShell ?

Thanks !!

Hi @mutrax ,

First of all, there is a premise that only Power BI Pro users can view the shared report, unless the report is in Premium capacity.
Then how did you share it? If it is Publish to web, everyone can view it. If it is embed Power BI reports into portals, to view the embedded report, users need either a Power BI Pro or Premium Per User (PPU) license or the content needs to be in a workspace that's in a Power BI Premium capacity (EM or P SKU)

Members of the workspace where the dataset resides can assign the permission to specific users or security groups in the Permission center. If you're a member of the workspace, select More options (...) next to a dataset > Manage Permissions.

You can refer to

Thanks @v-stephen-msft and @_sfrost for your answers.  However, I think I didn't explain my question very well:  all users I want to give access to the reports already have a Power BI Pro license and all have been included in an O365 group.

Let's say the group name is Company_PBI_Group...  In order to grant access to PBI in Teams, I want that only the Company_PBI_Group have access to this feature.   The problem is that - apparently - I can't activate this feature (again, in Teams) for a group, I have to grant access to each user individually which is a pain...

Sorry again if my question wasn't clear !!

Christian

A little further explanation of the question:

* We have 100 users with PBI Pro licenses.  All of them have been included in our Company_PBI_Group O365 group

* We have financial reports, all finance users have been included in a Company_PBI_Finance group.  HR users have been included in a Company_PBI_HR group.

* At this time, all PBI users can access their reports using a browser (Google Chrome or MS Edge "Chromium').

* We'd like that only PBI licensed users "see" the PBI icon in Microsoft Teams.  The problem is that we can't use an AD or O365 group to do that, we have to grant access to this feature in an individual basis.

Hope this explanation is more clear.  😥

Hi @mutrax ,

Microsoft 365 E5 includes Power BI pro. Please check: https://www.microsoft.com/en-sg/microsoft-365/enterprise/e5?rtc=1&activetab=pivot:overviewtab

@mutrax

It's clearly mentioned that we can share the report with Microsoft 365 Group. Not sure why your team mentioned otherwise.

Collaborate in Microsoft Teams with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs

As suggested in the above doc, create a single workspace and publish your report to the newly created workspace. Once done, provide read access to your O365 group and then embed the report in your Teams Channel.
