Power BI and DAX

Hi  Experts,

I have a user requirement :

I have a live connected(Direct query) data set using Power BI Redshift native connector . Can we publish it to Power BI Webservice so that it can be consumed by Microsoft Excel. 

If yes, Would DAX calculations work if we use a direct query method. What would be the best approach to handle this.

What does "consumed by Microsoft Excel" mean? Could you please clarify more details about it?
