Hi,
I have published our department's "master dataset" to an app workspace on the Power BI Service, and I am currently using it to build reports using the 'Power BI Service dataset' connector in the Desktop application.
Before I go too far down this road, I know that the app workspace will be renamed in a couple of weeks as the department name is changing. How will this affect the connection between my .pbix files and the dataset in the app workspace?
Will the connector recognise that it's still the same dataset if the workspace name changes?
I'm hoping I don't have to re-start all my reports from scratch when the workspace is renamed...

By my test, that should have no effect on the connection after renaming the app workspace.
I have created a report and publish it to an app workspace in Power BI Service. Then connect with Power BI Service and create the report with the same dataset in Power BI Desktop, publish to the app workspace.
After renaming the app workspace, I still could connect the dataset in the app workspace. There is nothing bad.

Brilliant, that's good to hear!
Hi,
Just taking this enquiry to its next logical step, could the dataset itself be renamed? I'm guessing the answer is "No", but it'd be good to understand anyway, just so we know that when we upload the initial data model, we need to be really clear about naming conventions.
If a connection between a report and a dataset in the Power BI service is "broken" (e.g. by deleting the original dataset), can the report be linked to a new dataset? Or would that report essentially become defunct?
Thanks!
