Hi all,
I understand that after four refresh fails in a row that Power BI disables refreshing for that report. Does anybody have a way they have figured out to tell them that this report has been disabled in a notification of some sort?
I know that there is an idea out there to not let it get disabled ( https://ideas.powerbi.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=7962bda2-0f74-4b00-949c-b96e2db30b3e ) but that doesn't help with a notification.
Does anybody have a workaround?
Thanks!

Hey @collinq ,
maybe I'm mixing up something. I got some emails that notify that some automatic refreshes have been paused due to inactivity.
Of course, that's something completely different as pausing the automatic refresh due to prior failures, for this reason, I set something up, that will fail, because I stopped the gateway.
I will report back in a couple of hours 🙂
Regards,
Tom
Hey @collinq ,
I'm happy to report this, it works but there are some intricacies 🙂
This is the text of the 3rd email:
And this is the body of the 4th email:
Be aware of the little phrase: data refresh has been disabled
If your 4th notification does not contain this sentence I would consider this strange.
Regards,
Tom
You have to read the body of the email to see that your refresh has been disabled, interesting that it still says that I will get a 'next refresh'
I had 4 refreshes in a row fail because the premium service throttled my refresh. Something in our tenent is hogging the resources causing refreshes to fail due to throttling. A refresh should not be disabled because of a throttling failure.
Hey @collinq ,
I'm wondering if you are looking for this feature:
https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/sending-refresh-notifications-to-others/
This works, I know this because sometimes I get email notifications, when a refresh failed and also when the automatic refresh will be paused 🙂
Regards,
Tom
Hi @TomMartens ,
Yes! That is exactly what I am looking for. So, I do get the emails that say that "refresh failed" but I do NOT get the "refresh paused" emails.... is there maybe a separate setting somewhere to enable that piece?

Hi @TomMartens ,
I want to thank you for testing this and spending effort on this answer. I truly appreciate it! We were able to find the "data refresh disabled" for one report. We did NOT receive that email for the other report - the one we have been testing with. Perhaps they only send it for one of the reports in a workspace if they all fail? (We had three reports in the workspace, all three failed, we received three emails on all of them, we received the fourth email on one of them about that one being disabled - which, was not the one we were testing the "why we didn't get an email about this".)
Thanks again for your help!
