Hi,
Is it possible to set the Skip Test Connection property when updating the credentials of a data flow using the Power BI REST API?
Specifically i'm trying to use https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi/gateways/updatedatasource
Nonononono. Do not do that. Bad things will happen.
Hi lbendlin,
Thanks for the reply, let me explain a bit more about what I’m trying to achieve.
We have a range of dataflows connecting to a WebAPI using basic authentication and periodically we have a requirement to update the credentials of these dataflows when the username and password changes. The challenge is that the URL that is used by the Power BI service to test the credentials entered is the base URL and not the full URL used in the dataflow. This is normally not an issue as we can set the “Skip test connection” and the dataflow will refresh. However we cannot do the same thing through the API which prevent us update all of the dataflows using the API and we would have to do this manually.
It seems reasonable that if the “Skip test connection” option is available through the front end it can also be used through the API.
What are the issues that could occur by setting this option through the API, other than potentially getting the credentials wrong and the dataflows not refreshing?
Hi,
i have same need: have you found any solution?
Hi stefanik,
No i've found no solution to this yet using the API.
I've created a Microsoft ticket for this "problem".
They said, at the moment, it is not possible and suggested me this workaround:
I've submitted a request in PowerBi Idea:

Thx
