Power BI Pro License - Whether required for End Users

Hi,

One of my customer has a single Power BI Pro License and using that he has created a workspace and published some reports. After publishing he shared some of the reports to other users in the same organisation. Only the view access has been given.

However when other users enter the Power BI application or click on the link which came in e-mail after sharing, the application is requesting for Power BI pro license and they are not able to view the reports since they don't have Power BI pro licnese.

As per my knowledge, we need Pro license only for the users who need to edit or publish the reports in Power BI Service.

Could you please let me know why this happens ?

Hi @Anonymous,

AFAIK, power bi service has moved share features to pro license only. It means users will require a Pro license to do both share and receive shared power bi contents. (e.g. shared capacity)

Power BI service features by license type

If you move these share contents into premium capacity, they not required licenses.

Power BI Premium FAQ
If shared contents not contain sensitive data and not include security settings, you can also try to use publish to web share these contents.

Publish to web from Power BI

@Anonymous

They also need Power BI Pro License to view the reports that are published. If the organization has Power Bi premium, those users view the reports even with FREE account.
