Power BI Premium

Hello,

I'm unsure if this is in the wrong forum section - if it's wrong, I apologise.

We have recently purchased a Power BI Premium license where I work.

Whilst rolling out reporting we are coming across the scenario where some users can log in and see content but other users are promted to "upgrade to a pro license, click here for free trial".

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this message is showing?

We have a person in IT who controls the admin portal and licenses. When a new user needs to be setup, the process from the IT admin is to assign the new user a 'free' license and then to add them to relevant AD groups. Then they can see content.

My question - is there any need for new users to be assigned a free license? and is this what is causing the temporamental "free pro trial" message?

Obviously, Premium licensing does not license by user but is licensed by capacity - so, in my view of the world, assigning users in the admin portal a free license before they log in isn't needed?

Thanks for any help.

Martyn

I remember there is a setting in Office 365  to disable individual users to sign up for free license so that the admin can control it.

Will check and get back.

I will try to answers as much as possible but please refer to the documentation for reference.

The users can sign up themselves unless "AllowAdHocSubscriptions" is set to false. Even the users sign up for free license, they need the workspace access(Viewer, member, contributor) to view the content. If they intend to develop any reports, they need pro license.

Again, refer to the documentation for more detail.
