Power BI Premium Node Sharing - within the organization

Hi Power BI Community,

Is there an existing feature where if a client purchased a single p1 node, multiple teams can share that node? and if yes, how can one measure the usage of each team? because we really want to maximize the nodes we are planning to buy and it'll be great if many projects can benefit this premium feature.

Thanks you so much!

@Anonymous A cautious "yes"... A company that purchases a P1 license can have many teams use the same license, you are only bound by capacity. A license cannot be shared with other companies, so if the team is external to the tenant, then "no" that team will not be able to work within the same workspaces. (you can share externally though).

The capacity admin can add specific workspaces to capacity, and that is how you manage who gets what and permissions (on the workspace level).

Metrics for activity can be tracked as well.

Hi @Anonymous

Power BI Pro will be expensive for a large user base,If you have a large user base (let’s say 10,000 users), then Power BI Premium is the best licensing option for you. Power BI Premium is designed for large user base scenario where the size of data is huge.

Reference: Power BI Premium is it for you or not

To measure the usage of each team, each capacity has its own admins, as a capacity admin, you have full control over the capacity and its administrative features.

From the Power BI admin portal, you can add more capacity admins or give users capacity assignment permissions. You can bulk assign workspaces to a capacity and view usage metrics on a capacity.

Reference: manage Power BI Premium

Capacity admins do not have access to all Power BI admin areas by default, such as usage metrics, audit logs or tenant settings.

You can monitor capacity with the Power BI Premium Capacity Metrics app or in the admin portal.

Best Regards

Thanks guys! and i think that with the new dataset size report in the premium capacity metrics app, managing the capacity is now easier.
