Attempting to run a ML regression and receiving the following error on the ML entity:
"Error: An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'An internal error occurred.'.. RootActivityId"
Gateway is connected for data in SQLServer but the AIInsight extensions cannot be added to the gateway.
ML has worked in the past with the same setup but now will not run.
HI @lagomar ,
It is hard to troubleshoot without any detail information, can you please share more detail information to help us clarify your scenario?(e.g. detailed error message with activity/request id, snapshot, detail operation steps...)

Hi @v-shex-msft ,
Thanks for your response. For data privacy reasons I cannot include screenshots but here are the steps that I am taking to create my dataflow and implement the ML capabilities:
1. Create workspace, enabling dedicated capacity
2. Create dataflow
3. Add new entities - SQL Server database
4. login using database credentials (basic authentication kind)
5. Select on-premises gateway under connection credentials (gateway opened and logged in on my desktop)
6. Select table
7. Select 'Transform data'
8. Filter date range, and locational data
9. Save & close
10. Name dataflow
11. Refresh data
12. Apply ML model to entity (SQL Server data I just added)
13. Select Historical outcome field, in my case an integer value representing travel days
14. Select regression as model type
15. Select Base Entities for model
16. Name model, SAVE & REFRESH
17. Error after less than one minute on the refresh: Error: An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'An internal error occurred.'.. RootActivityId = 8bf235fc-cc18-4e05-9296-9b4d91d9d7b7.Param1 = An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'An internal error occurred.' Request ID: 8b28cf2e-af9c-af35-c587-7cc16bf2ba62.
Training data entitiy completed successfully but when the regression entity runs there is an error. I've tried using ML models (not just regression) with different historical outcome fields and received same error.
Note: This error does not occur when I refresh entity with no ML model applied.
Thanks for your help!
HI @lagomar ,
According to your description, it seems like a compatibility issue between power bi dataflow and Azure ML datasource, I'd like to suggest you open a support ticket to get further support from power bi team.
