Hi,
When connecting Power BI Service with On-prem data sources through Power BI Gateway, is it possible to set up connectivity via Azure Backbone network or a private network (eg Azure Private Link or ExpressRoute) so that data is not routed through the public internet?

Hi @Surm ,
It is possible with Azure ExpressRoute with Microsoft Peering, but the network configuration is somewhat complex. It's much more common to get a firewall exception for the Gateway VM, or to run the Gateway VM in an Azure VNet and connect back to on-prem data sources through ExpressRoute.

Jay

Can you elaborate on this please?
How does Power BI connect to Azure Vnet? What should we do to ensure that connection be on Azure backbone and not on the public internet?
In this set up, are we required to install Power BI Gateway on an Azure VM, and connect Power BI to that Power BI Gateway? Or, can we omit Power BI Gateway?
