Power BI Front end performance

We use Power BI reporting connected to SSAS tabular models (live connection). All the reports are hosted on Power BI Premium Service (P1 Capacity). We are suddenly experiencing a significant drop in front-end report performance in the last one month, though there has been a reduction in data size (removed 1 year of historical data ~1 Million rows). The primary SSAS Model is large (~3 GB) with complex measures and relationships. We have explored Power BI Premium Usage Metrics Report as well, but this does not help in our scenario as the data is hosted on SSAS and does not use import mode.
Please share insights on understanding the root-cause of the issue. In addition to this, is there a way to monitor usage metrics / performance of SQL Analysis server?

I would agree - the very first thing you will want to do is to make sure your SSAS instance is performing optimally. All the cube optimizations, pre-aggregations, caching etc. Next check your network interfaces for any bottlenecks/congestion/latency etc.

Only after this cleared out you should then look at the Power BI part. Small note:  P1 only has 25 GB of RAM and 6 renderers. That might be a bit tight, and you may want to consider beefing it up to P3.

If you are still stuck, and you have a Pro license you can consider raising a Pro ticket at https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/support/pro/
