Power BI Dataset field format different than direct source format

I have a date table in the Power BI Dataset I am connected to. The Date field in that model is formatted as Date in the Dataflow where it was created. It is also formatted as a Date type when I work with the dataset directly. However, the field Format is Date/Time when I connect using Power BI Datasets connector (from desktop). I don't believe.

Same field  when connecting to the Power BI Dataset. As you can see, I cannot change the format.

Any thoughts? Obviously Date/Time formatting breaks the relationship with an order_date on my fact table (Date type).

Thanks for the response. What you point out is clear - it makes sense that I cannot edit the dataset when live connected. The issue, here, is this:

  • Type at source is Date (This is a dataflow with the Date field set as type Date). When I live connect to the dataflow in my dataset, the type is as expected - Date.
  • Type is Date/Time when I live connect to the dataset containing this dataflow.

So, you can see the issue. I already have this defined correctly in the dataflow. As long as I connect directly to it the type is as expected. But when I live connect to the dataset containing this dataflow for some reason that column type is coming in as Date/Time.

Long story short - the field is defined correct at the source but is returned as a different type when I connect to the live dataset it is published to.

you cant make changes to a live connected source no matter the source type, so basically if you want to change that format data type you have to make the change on the dataset , wont be able to make it on the live connection unless you change the conection to direct query or direct query dual mode with the new feature of direct query for live conection datasets of power bi desktop.

if this solved your question please mark it as solution and give some kudos for others to find it more easily.
