Power BI Dataset Refresh with On Premise SQL and Data from Cloud

Hi community,

I published a PowerBI report where there are two data sources in that report, one data source is On-Prime data from SQL server and another data set is from Cloud SQL server.

I had no issues when the data are all coming from On-Premise SQL server, first time having a report with Cloud base data and On-Premise Server.

In the dropdown for "Maps to", I can only see the Cloud base source available in my dropdown although I do have On-Premise Data Gateway set up as well.

My question is, is there a limitation in PowerBI that I cannot have one PowerBI report with one is On-Premise data source and one is Cloud base data source for the auto-refresh?

Thank you in advance for answering.

Hi @lliu08 ,

PowerBI allows composite models of local data sources and cloud sources.

Under Gateway Cluster Settings, you need apply "Allow user's cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster". To learn more, please see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-gateway-mashup-on-premises-cloud

I do have that check off but still don't have the option of having the refresh set to one On-Premise and one cloud.

please see photo below, I only have one selection show up in the dropdown while there are more than just one options in my data gateway cluster

Answering to my own question. Problem solved now, just have to add a new connection with the same server name.

You can have both type of dataset in same dataset.

to help you with current issue, would be helpful if you could share screenshot where you are seeing only could source
