Power BI App services license cost

Hi,

Currently my organization is using Power BI Report server to publish the dashboards. Now we are in a plan to move to Power BI App Service. Wanted to know the complete information about

  • Types of Licenses available.
  • How many users can avail the license or is it individual user license.
  • What is the cost per month or per year.
  • Along with developers do the end users also need license to view / interact with the dashboards.
  • Any group license available.

Can some one help me with clear information on licensing costs

Regards

DD

Hi @Anonymous ,

1. Types of Licenses available.

There are 3 types of licenses for Power BI - Power BI Free & Power BI Pro & Power BI Premium.

Power BI Premium is not a type of user license. It is an organizational subscription that provides a different way to store content -- in dedicated capacity.

For a specific comparison between the 3 licenses, here is a comparison table for reference.

For Power BI Pro and Premium, here is an official document: Power BI features comparison. It will help you to determine which collaboration, publishing, and consumption option is best for your organization.

2. How many users can avail the license or is it individual user license.

Power BI Pro license can be purchased according to the number of your needs.

3. What is the cost per month or per year.

For Power BI Pro, it is $9.99 User/Month;

For Power BI Premium, Monthly price per dedicated cloud compute and storage resource with annual subscription is $4,995.

You can use Power BI Premium calculator to get a rough estimate.

4. Along with developers do the end users also need license to view / interact with the dashboards.

If your reports are in Premium workspace (dedicated workspace), end users won't need Pro licenses to view reports.

If your reports are in ordinary workspace (shared workspace), end users need Pro licenses to view reports.

It’s important to know that if you have a Premium license, you still need to have a Power BI Pro license to develop or publish reports. Once reports are published to the Power BI Service, they can be packaged along with dashboards in a workspace app and this network app can be shared with anyone in the organization and they are free to use that under the Premium licensing.

5. Any group license available.

Maybe you mean Power BI Premium license.

Icey

Hi @Anonymous

You can look up pricing here:  https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/

You can learn about licenses available here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-admin-licensing-organization

And these 2 docs will help as well:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-features-license-type

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/end-user-license

Between those 4 articles, you should answer all of your questions.  If not, let me know.
