Accidentally deleted an existing dataset where my Power BI report using the Power BI Service was linked to. I reuploaded the dataset under another group. is there a method to point my existing Power BI report to the other dataset location? Or will I need to recreate the report with all the visualizations?
Solved! Go to Solution.
I did only copy the connection file and have the latest powerbi.
Note that I ended up fixing it by restoring the group/workspace that was accidentally deleted by a collaegue.
Hi @SandyBL,
In SU08, this feature is going to be generally available. We support rebinding the dataset in the PBI Desktop. So, if user deletes their data set in service. In Desktop they can rebind to another dataset.
I have got a information that a new feature which supports rebinding the dataset in the PBI Desktop is going to be generally available in next release of Power BI Desktop((Aug 2017)).
Regards
That's great
Hi @SandyBL
You could re-connect it again, but it is a bit of hacking with the PBIX file.
I do have a blog post explaining how to change the existing connection details to a dataset in the existing Power BI Service.
Let me know if this works, or if you need some assistance.
So this is what I did:
When I opened the file, it says the file is corrupt or created in another version of PowerBI
Hi @SandyBL
That should work as I had done that in the past.
And to confirm that you only copied the "Connection" file.
Also do you have the latest version of Power BI Desktop installed?
I did only copy the connection file and have the latest powerbi.
Note that I ended up fixing it by restoring the group/workspace that was accidentally deleted by a collaegue.
