Permissions for Power BI App end users

Hi all,

I am a relative newbie to Power BI and still finding my feet. I have a couple basic questions relating to end users of an App. Hopefully the answers are straightfoward.

1) .What can an end user of a Power BI App do?

Can they export data, analyze in Excel and expand visuals? Or do they get RO access only?

2). Can RLS be applied to end users of an APP?

Thank you.

Hi @Sam_Basso,

1. Actually, the end users can be divided into two groups. One group is a member of an App, while the other group is non-member of it. If a member is view-only, he will be the same with non-member. So a normal member can edit the whole app as the Admin does. A non-member can only have read-only access. But a non-member still can interact with dataset and reports, such as exporting data, expanding visuals and analysing in Excel.

2. RLS will be applied to the read-only users. In other way, RLS can't be applied to a normal member by now.

>>If you publish your Power BI Desktop report to an app workspace within the Power BI service, the roles will be applied to read-only members. You will need to indicate that members can only view Power BI content within the app workspace settings.

All these are based on the documents and my test. Please reference:

Best Regards!
