Once I apply roles, the filtered information is available, but all other users can't

Guys,

I just create a profile to filter information for a sales team. I did tests and the role works fine, I can see only the information related. I published the BI and the only user that can see information is the one with rol; all other users can't see anything, no information at all:

Error rol.jpg

No se ve nada.jpg

I'm deleting the roles and I hope that all other guys can see the info once again, but I'm wondering how to solve the issue, since I need to apply the roles. More weird is that it works fine for the account that published the dashboard. In my test enviroment, after deleting roles, now I can see thedashboard again. Any suggestion?

Thanks, regards,

Abelardo

Hi, @Abevann

If I understand you, you want part users to use rls and other users not to use rls. This is unreasonable. Once you use RLS, you need to add all users who need to view the report. The workaround is to give them((part users)) the permission to edit report so that rls will not work.

Row-level security (RLS) with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs:

If you publish your Power BI Desktop report to a new workspace experience in the Power BI service, the RLS roles are applied to members who are assigned to the Viewer role in the workspace. Even if Viewers are given Build permissions to the dataset, RLS still applies. For example, if Viewers with Build permissions use Analyze in Excel, their view of the data will be protected by RLS. Workspace members assigned AdminMember, or Contributor have edit permission for the dataset and, therefore, RLS doesn’t apply to them. If you want RLS to apply to people in a workspace, you can only assign them the Viewer role. Read more about roles in the new workspaces.

If you still have problems, please feel free to ask me.

Hi, @Abevann

RLS needs to be configured in the desktop, and then users need to be assigned according to roles in the service. Check if this step isn't done so only you can see the information.

Thanks Janey,

Correct; I'm ataching the sequence I did on mi local test:

I have two users, abelardo.hernandez and emi. hernandez; at the end, abelardo.hernandez should and all other users that have acces to the dasboard should see the full report, and emi.hernandez only the data from Home Depot.

First, I did the role on desktop:

Administrar roles.gif

I tested on desktop, and worked very good; no filter, only Home Depot info:

Rol vendedor Home Depot.gif

Only Home Depot as it has to be. Once I deactivate the rol, all the info looks pretty fine. Then published and add the rol in security on the data base:

Seguridad.jpg

Looks fine and went to the dashboard; I was able to see only the Home Depot information as it should be:

Rol Home Depot.jpg

I tried on the main account abelardo.hernandez, the one that published the dashboard, and looks perfect, all the information available:

Dashboard con usuario creador.jpg

Then, I deleted the rol with the emi.hernandez user;

Rol borrado.gif

And go back to the dashboard, with no role on information but now I can't see anything on the dashboard

Sin rol.jpg

Sin rol activado.jpg

And actually this is the screen that all but me see. As I undertstand all the users that I don't include in the security list should be able to see all the information (same thing than the publisher user, in this instance abelardo.hernandez) and only the defined user have limitations to the info (in this instance only Home Depot info for emi.hernandez). Am I right? Any issue on the configuration?

Thanks a lot, regards,

Abelardo

Hi Janey,

Ok, I understand, so I need to define roles for everyone.

Thanks, regards,
