Moving to a new domain

We have cubes built in Visual Studio on our data warehouse that we connected to Power BI. We're currently on domain 'abc' but going to be moving to domain 'def' in the next month or so.

What's the best way to switch everything?

Do I just need to create a new data source on our data warehouse server to open the data gateway? Then export and import all the pbix files? How do I ensure that the workspaces are setup exactly the same as before?

Re: Moving to a new domain

Hi @Machzy

What I would suggest doing is to download all the PBIX files and make a note of the respective App Workspaces, as well as the permissions associated in each App Workspace.

I would then create the same App Workspaces and permissions in the new tenant.

I would then ensure I have got my new On-Premise Gateway setup and working in the new tenant.

I would then upload the downloading PBIX files into the new App Workspaces, and if the Gateway is setup as the previous version they should all connect and work.

Here is the official way to export the PBIX, but does so one at a time

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/module/microsoftpowerbimgmt.reports/export-powerbireport...

Or Rui's blog and PowerShell script is where you can export all the PBIX from an App Workspace

Happy to assist.

I would say it is more checking that everything is the same and making a few small changes to ensure the users have the same experience!
