Measure is not interacting with other table.

Hello

I do have one data model in that approx 5 dimention table and 1 fact table. When i am creating one Measure in Dimension table it is not interacting with another dimension table field but it is interating with fact table. So my understanding is we need to create measure always on the fact table not dimension table Am i getting correct understanding? Or it if we create one measure  in dimension table then if another dimesion is connected to the fact table and the current dimension(Where we are creating measure) also connected to the fact table then measure can interact with another dimension field.

Hi @Anonymous

As tested, GilbertQ's suggestion is verified to be correct and useful to make measures interacting with other tables.

For your question,

1.So my understanding is we need to create measure always on the fact table not dimension table Am i getting correct understanding?

no, it is not correct, you can create measures in any tables instead of only fact table, To make the measures interact with other tables, you need to create correct relationships among these tables.

2.if we create one measure  in dimension table then if another dimesion is connected to the fact table and the current dimension(Where we are creating measure) also connected to the fact table then measure can interact with another dimension field.

Yes, since two dimesion tables have indirect relationships via fact table, measures created in one table can interact with the other table.

Here is my test.

Hi there

You can put a measure into any table in your data model. That does not affect how a measure works.

What will affect how the measure works is based on the relationships in your data model.
If you measure is with a field in your dimension table and has a relationship to the fact table, then that is the only time it will work, because that is the only relationship.
