Hi everybody!
I am developing a Power BI Desktop solution for a customer which I have published on the customer's power bi site. Still developing but everything has worked fine until yesterday when I got problem refreshing the data set in Power BI. The gateway reports a meaningless error saying "The last refresh attempt failed because of an internal service error." I don't have access to the gateway but it has worked fine. All data comes from stored procedures from a SQL Server 2008 and it worked fine until yesterday.
The strange thing is that if I make a copy and publishes it to Power BI, the copy can be refreshed and works as it should. I just now go back and look at some of the reports based on the failed data set and surprisingly it seems that data set is updated. I have some fields telling Last time updated which is only refreshed when the data gateway is run.
What can I do here? If the gateway is reporting an error, an error message is sent to the customer and they will of course asked me what is wrong.
I have tried several things for instance making an almost empty Power BI desktop file with the same name with no data connections in it, to see what is happening. I see the change, but when I put the original file back it got the same error. The last thing I will do is to delete the dataset and republish it again. I think that will fix the problem but then it will delete all the reports connected to that dataset which will take hours or days to recreate.
The Power bi desktop file must be ok since it works when I rename the file and publish it and the refresh.Since I don't have access to the data gateway I don't know the version but I am quite sure it is the newest version.
I hope somebody can give me a hint or a suggestion how to fix this error.
I don't think that I'll be of much help but some mhr writer reviews have essays proposing the solution to the problem you seem to be having. Do check it out.
Hi @Anonymous,
Seems you are an expert. You could know all the settings. I would suggest you file a support ticket here.
Best Regards,
Dale
