Logging in PowerBI Desktop on Multiple Devices

Is there a limit to how many devices can i install PowerBI Desktop and login with a Pro account?

Long story short, i've been using the Desktop version on my personal computer and now i've got a notebook from my company and i want to install and use it there, but IT says i can't because the license is bond to a device and installing on another one is going to cost another license.

As far as I know, the license is user-bond, which means i can use it in any device as long as i log with my corporative e-mail - as i did to use it in my personal computer. So i believe either me or them are lacking some advice and the official FAQs and forum won't make it clear for us.

Also, at first they seemed to ask for another purchase of the Desktop app to install it on my new notebook, so i believe they're misinterpreting some info, but i might be wrong... after showing them that there is no fee for installing the Desktop app they said that "it's in the contract that the license is single device" so they won't install it for me.

Keep in mind it took 5 minutes to set all up and running on another notebook i have so i could verify all i need is to install and login.

HI!

You do not need any license for Power BI Desktop on any machine. You can simply login to your tenant with org email and that is it. The License is tied only to your ID and not to Power Bi Desktop/Power BI Report Builder at all.

It appears that your IT team isn't aware of the Power BI licensing. Please go ahead and install it yourself at any number of devices you wish!

Wish I could, but since i need it on the company notebook and i'm locked out of admin privileges i need them to get it done.

I've asked here because i don't know how does licensing works for companies but as far as i know the IT only manages who is or isn't getting a Pro upgrade and there's no such thing as device licensing, unless there's some mechanism to prevent people from sharing reports by using the same account - which doesn't seems to be the way the app goes since i have it on different devices right now.

Try adding it from Microsoft Store. That does not need admin rights mostly.
