Hello! I am trying to import a Power Pivot database with a Tabular data source into Power BI service via PBI desktop and set up data refresh via the on-premise data gateway.
I am able to import and refresh the dataset in PBI desktop.
When I publish the dataset from PBI desktop to PBI service, I get the report and the dataset in PBI service, but I am not able to refresh using an on-premises data gateway data source configured to the original Tabular database (SSAS 2012).
Error message:
You don't have any gateway installed or configured for the data sources in this dataset. Please install a new personal gateway or configure the data source for an existing data gateway.
The on-premises data gateway data source for the Tabular database does work for another PBI dataset which directly queries the Tabular database. I use the user id of the SSAS (Tabular) server administrator in the data source, which is also the same user id as the user logged in to Power BI service.
I am also able to import and refresh a Power Pivot database to PBI service that uses only a SQL Server (2012) database as a data source.
What should I try next?
Thanks!
Hi @chris30119,
Based on my description, the dataset has two data sources, one is SQL Server database, the other is SSAS tabular, right?
To configure the dataset use data gateway, you need to create both SQL server and SSAS data sources under data gateway. Please go to Manage Gateways, create those two data sources use the same connection information (server name, database name) as in Power BI desktop. Then back to the Dataset settings, the data gateway should be available.
