Invalid connection credentials Refresh issue

Hi.

We are having issues when some reports refresh, were they are failing with invalid credentials, yet when checking the gateways the connections are succesful and the reports work fine from desktop app as well

Does anyone have any ideas

thanks

Hi @mmorley,

Could you please tell me what kind of connection mode and data source you are using? Have you modified your password after you have configured the gateway? And please check if you are using same authentication type and account in Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop.

Regards,

Daniel He

we've tested with direct connection (mysql) and odbc connection

the gateway keeps going offline due to not being able to connect to the datasource

both desktop and service using same credentials and authenication type.

Think found the issue which is totally different to what BI is saying as have done some further testing

The report uses various datasources and if we create a new report using the datasource that BI is saying is the problem, it works without any problems.

We then started adding the other datasources that are in the report and found when we enter a particular one the report fails to refresh, but reports the issue with a different datasource and not the one causing the problem.

The one causing a problem has readonly access to an sql database, but needs to create/drop a temporary table which we believe is causing the problem. The sql version connecting to is an older version and doesn't allow CTE using WITH so only work-around is to use a temporary table. This works fine from SSM and BI Desktop, but only causes a problem when we publish the report.

Is anyone able to offer a solution that doesn't require another database to be setup to pull the data across so we can use a simple view

You need to recheck at report level if your credentials are correctly set up and authenciated, even though the gateway is running fine. So check the data source credentials of the reports failing the refresh and ensure the show no error.
