How to set alerts automatically?

I have created a dashboard for Power BI Mobile with 50 card tiles. Each card indicates an "alarm" for a factory machine.

I was planning to use the alert feature to send notifications to users, but the problem is that each user has to setup all 50 alerts manually.

Is there a way to set alerts automatically in the design phase?

Or is there a workaround?

Can I use a "Power BI master account" together with Flow to generate the notifications?

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

I have now experimented with Flows.

I tried using the red bell icon Notification in a Flow action, but it appears it will only send to the current/editing user, instead of everyone.

Then I created a PowerApp instead. I also created a PowerApps Push notification connector. This connector is not added to the app itself, it is only used by Flows to send notifications to one PowerApp.

However, I am required to fill in the Recipients parameter with one email address, it does not seem to be possible to just send to my PowerApp. The Recipients parameter seems to be a filter that is not optional, which is illogical.

The workaround for this requirement seems to be to have an Office 365 group and use that group's email address as recipient. All users then need to be members of that group. The users will then pass the filter and receive notifications in the PowerApp.

With this design I can create 50 flows with the Power BI master account, each flow linked to an alert on a Power BI tile.

I will probably not go further with this method, since the notifications seem to be delayed (and I suspect sometimes missing). Also, maintaining 50 flows is not great either.

Hi @tripleacoder,

For your requirement, I found that this video should help you which introduce the steps how we distribute the Power BI alert to a group of users with Microsoft Flow.
