How to implement Gen2 Chargebacks

Edit: new feature update is here Chargeback reporting for Power BI Premium administrators | Microsoft Docs

Context

Our parent company consists of several separated childs, but everything falls under the same (AAD & O365) tentant. One child is going to buy PBI Premium soon and wants all other child organizations to use it too. This is technically possible, however, we also need to make sure that every organization pays for what they use.

We found that with the Gen2 Improved metrics - Including clear and normalized capacity utilization data, depending only on the complexity of the analysis operations the capacity performs. Metrics are not impacted by other factors such as the size of the capacity, and the level of load on the system while performing analytics. When using the improved metrics, the built-in reporting tool allows you to clearly see:

  • Chargebacks

Question

I cannot find any information or recommendation on how this chargeback functionality works in practice, or how to configure it (assuming that it is customizable, or is it one size fits all?). We would like to know which utilization metrics are recommended to use for calculating chargeback and how to implement it (maybe technical but also from a people process perspective).

Thank you very much.

Hi  @mmossel  ,

What you mean is that you have a main company and other subsidiaries. After you buy a Power bi Premium, you will calculate the proportion based on each subsidiary's usage rate of this Power bi Premium.

Finally, through this proportion, will the subsidiary account for the corresponding expenses?

@v-yangliu-msft exactly, the aim is to settle the final bill according to everyone's consumption of the joint premium capacity.
