How to get a notification email from Power BI after WF with Dataset refresh, not scheduled.

Hi.

I use the action of Dataser refresh in Power Automate but don't receive any notification from PowerBI when the refresh fails.

MS support says such feature is not available.

Has anyboby found a workaround OOTB?

Thanks. Regards,

Just list yourself to get data refresh errors in the Service for the dataset.

DAX is easy, CALCULATE makes DAX hard...

In Service, click the vertical ellipses for the dataset, Schedule Refresh and the email address for getting refresh failures is there.

Hi Creg,

Thanks for the answer, but the Scheduled refresh option in Dataset configuration is not suitable for my scenario.

I need a trigger to launch the Dataset refresh. So I used a Power Automate WF.

As Power BI and Power Automate are different platforms, Power BI doesn't send notification email on datadet refresh.

Any idea for turnaround.

Hi @edubmad ,

Sorry for that, we did not find a build-in feature which can send email if a refresh which called by Power Automate failed. But we can try to build an application which call the "Get Refresh History API" or  "Get Refresh History In Group API" intervally to get the history of failure refresh. Then make the application send an email if there are one failure refresh.

Please also refer to this document about Registering an Azure AD application to use with Power BI: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embedded/register-app

Hi @v-lid-msft ,

Thank you for the answer.

I am new at Power BI and I am not a programmer. I would appreciate if you could help preparing an application using the Get refresh history API that send anotification of fail.

I can follow your instructions to register the application in Azure. But to do so, it is indicated I should provide a name,  Application Type. I think it would ne native because the admin uses a Power BI Pro license.

What are the next steps I should follow?
