How to create seperate groups for every app I publish

Hi all,

We recently started using Power BI service.

As far as I understand, creating apps is pretty much the next generation workspace. So I would like to bundle my reports into different apps:

- Logistic app (all logistic employees)

- Management app (all managers)

etc.

I want to be entirely flexible regarding the permissions. So I want to have the flexibility to add a few logistic employees to the management app.

How can I create all those groups per app in Power BI? I don't want these groups to be fixed for the entire O365 environment, just Power BI.

Kind regards,

Hi @Anonymous ,

You can make the groups in Office 365 ( Create a group in the admin center - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Docs)  and then here Publish an app in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Docs .

Hi @Anonymous ,

In the Apps, you are allowed to set permissions by name as well as group.  If you have defined your groups, you can put in those groups and then have the individuals you want as well.

Sounds great exactly what I am looking for. But how can I create these groups?

Okay So I have to do it in Office 365 and cannot do it for Power BI alone??

Another question. If I succeed in creating a group. Can I make it so that I have an app for management for example, but I want one employee to be able to view just one of the reports which is in the app for managers?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Yes, in that App itself you can add that individual - like this:

hi @collinq

Thanks for your reply.

I understood, but the issue is that this person must not be allowed so see all the reports in the app, only a few.

HI @Anonymous ,

Your best bet in that case would be to only put the reports you want this user to see into an App that they have access to.  This might be a "duplicate app" in one respect as some reports are going to be in both Apps - the one with the fewer reports for this user and the one with more reports open to the other users.
