Hi,
I have created a report via PowerBI desktop. Thereafter I published it on the Power BI services on my workspace via the "+NEW" option by pointing it to the .pbix file saved in a folder.
I want to move the pbix file to another folder. How I can do that so that the existing Power BI report via services remains accessilbe to all existing users?
Hey @AB_ ,
as far as I know there is not really a move function. You can copy it to another workspace:
Copy reports from other apps or workspaces - Power BI | Microsoft Docs
Or you can rebind the report to another dataset with the Power BI REST API:
Reports - Rebind Report In Group - REST API (Power BI Power BI REST APIs) | Microsoft Docs
Would that work for you?
Hi Denis
Thanks for your suggestion.
I am searching for a solution where the end users do not have to change the url they have been using to access the report.
Given that I am the owner of the .pbix file, and given that I am also the owner of the workspace where the report is published - I prefer (if technically possible) to change the settings to point to the new folder destination where I plan to save the .pbix file.
If technically that would not be possible then the alternate solutions available are the approach you suggested (copy). And the second approach where I create a "NEW" report in my workspace which points to the new location of the .pbix file. But in both these solutions I will have to re-add all the users with their associated rights + all the users will have a new url address to use. Hence I prefer not to use this approach, if I can avoid it.
Hi @AB_,
You can copy the contents of My Workspace to other workspaces, but migration of the corresponding access is not supported now.
You can use Powershell script to copy contents.
Input group ID of source worspace, "me" is the group ID of 'My workspace'.
Input group ID of target worspace.
Here is the output:
