Group Sharing

Some dumb questions about sharing dashboards.

In my organization, I'm the only one doing any sort of analytics work. If I sign up for a Power BI Pro account, and want to share a dashboard with a group of about 12 people, will they need Pro accounts as well, or will they be able to access and view the dashboard just using our organization's account?

Also, if I just add all their e-mail addresses to the dashboard, will they need to sign up for anything? Or will they simply be able to access it using their 365 account?

Hey @jdotson,

This is a loaded question. It really depends on how you are getting the dataset to the dashboard. Any data source that is refershed through a gateway requires a Pro license to view the dashboard.

All the differences between Pro and Free users can be found here:

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-power-bi-pro-content-what-is-it/

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/?b=1

Hope this helps,

Alan

Hi @jdotson,

Adding to other’s post, when you share dashboard to other users, they will receive am email that contains the link of dashboard, the users will be prompted to sign up for Power BI if the users don’t already have an account after clicking the link.

And Power BI requires that we use a work, or school, email address to sign up, for more deatils, please review this article:https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-self-service-signup-for-power-bi/.

Thanks,
