Google Analytics refresh taking too long on service but fine on desktop

Hi,

I seem to be having a problem refreshing a (mostly) Google Analytics dataset from the service. It times out on the service stating it took longer than 120 minutes, but refreshing the same dataset from my machine takes ~30 seconds. I also can't publish from Desktop "over the top" of the other dataset.

The only source that is from anything other than GA is from an on-premise SQL Server database, which is in other datasets which refresh with no issues. Is anyone else having issues with Analytics, or does anyone have any ideas of why this may not be working?

Thanks,

Sean

The dataset and report are now working fine, so I'm not sure what the issue was. For anyone reading this in the future, re-uploading the report from Desktop was an effective workaround, so that is a possible option if you have the same issue. If it breaks again in the future then I'll keep this post up to date.

Hi @mansfis,

Did you get any error message after the long time refreshing? Did you load a large dataset from GA to Power BI?

Do you mean the dataset contains multiple data sources including SQL Server and GA?

Hi @v-yulgu-msft,

Yes, the report was built in Desktop using several GA sources and our corporate date table was brought in via SQL. This is on almost every report we have in the service yet this is the only one erroring.

It was the only error message I received. I had no issues refreshing the dataset from desktop.

I have since uploaded the same dataset less one GA source (that was no longer being used), and now it refreshes fine. I've retained the dataset on the service to see if we can fix it - it'd be good to get to the bottom of this in case it happens to the new dataset or to anyone else - but it is still failing to refresh.

Sean
