Getting parameter while login to be used as filter in embedded dashboard in another website

There are approx 10000 users who will login in web application, every user should see data in dashboard embedded in that website(publish to web) filtered by his name only.

As it is not feasible to make 10000 dashboards or bookmarks. Please suggest any work around or solution.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @arhantjain ,

According to my knowledge, your requirements cannot be realized by Publish to web directly. Because When you use Publish to web, anyone on the Internet can view your published report or visual. Viewing requires no authentication. Thus, If you want to filter what they can see based on username, You can use dynamic RLS, then Embed in web.

For more details, please refer to:

Embed a report in a secure portal or website

Hi @arhantjain ,

Regarding to the two issues you mentioned above.

1. Dynamic RLS does not works for public to web.

Refer to: Publish to web from Power BI

2. The embed for your customers solution provides the ability to embed dashboards and reports to users and users don't need to sign in using Power BI credentials to view the embedded content.

For more details, you can read:

Power BI embedded analytics

Embed content for customers

Thank you Jianbo Li for replying..!!

This is really helpful and solved the issue upto some extent. I have also tried to solve it by passing URL string parameters in embedded dashboard. But customer is still not convinced as he has to login twice in portal (once for portal and second for power bi).

It can be resolved by publishing data to web

Data can be published to web as its public data already available on govt website.

But URL filter string parameters dont work

on publish to web dashboard.

The issue can be resolved by getting answer of 2 questions:-

1. Is Dynamic RLS works for public to web?

2. Is Single sign work for embedded dashboard in website.?

Please help, thanks in advance.

Regards

Arhant Jain

@arhantjain did you manage to resolve this? As I am currently struggling with the same, I need to publish a report to web (public) and then embed this is our website...I want the users to get access based on the username they provide on our website when logging in
