Need you advice here:
1. If it's possible to set up a gateway if my data source is on OneDrive?
I am aware OneDrive doesn't need a gateway but it is teoretical question.
2. Are there any benefits from that? When it make sens?
3. When setting up a new data source within the enterprise gateway what data source type is relevant for OneDrive?
Sharepoint, Web, File ?
4. What happened to OAuth authentication with Sharepoint?
Why it is not available?
Hi @Anonymous ,
Does that make sense? If so, kindly mark the proper reply as a solution to help others having the similar issue and close the case. If not, let me know and I'll try to help you further.
Best regards
Amy
It's not yet resolved. With email address it's not working too. I have no idea which way to go. Let's keep it open.
Hi @Anonymous ,
For your question1 , question2 and question3, to connect to the files located in OneDrive for Business , you need to use Web connector, pay attention to steps detail: Use OneDrive for Business links in Power BI Desktop.
If your dataset contains not only cloud data source (such as OneDrive for Business ) but also the on premise data source, you need install and configure data gateway, and add the web data sources to gateway. For the Data Source Type, you need to choose Web. See more:https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-data-sources#add-a-data-source.
Note that you also need to select Allow user's cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster option Under Gateway Cluster Settings. See: Merge or append on-premises and cloud data sources.
For your question4, you may refer to the case https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Power-Query/sharepoint-gateway-error-not-showing-Oauth-in-Datasource-Setting/td-p/430316.
Best Regards,
Amy

HI @v-xicai
"For your question1 , question2 and question3, to connect to the files located in OneDrive for Business , you need to use Web connector, pay attention to steps detail: Use OneDrive for Business links in Power BI Desktop."
I am trying the above and failing.
When select open in Excel my window look like this...
When click on "Copy path" my link is copied in the format:
C:\Users\aaaaaaa.bbbbbb\Downloads\DimCustomer 2.xlsx
Which is not the link to OneDrive but to a local copy.
I tried the "Copy link" too..
and the format of this is:
Is this a correct one?
Open in Excel online probably gives you the correct link as that's a public one which is not specified in the blog.
So, link copied from Excel Online is a little bit different:

I then, tried to add new data source to the enterprise gateway I had installed:
data source type : Web
username: domain/username
password: domain password (windows)
authentication: windows
and received this error.

The same happens when previous link was used.
Has any one succeed with setting up OneDrive data source for a gateway?
Maybe this was a typo in your comment, but it's domain\username not domain/username and that does make a difference. Try that and post your results.
It says your creds are incorrect, also make sure the id and password are correct. I assume that part is correct as that's obvious in the error.
ya, that was a typo. Still have this error.
No idea where the root cause is. Double checked the account name in Active Directory.
Is that can be caused by PingID normally use as additional security when signing in to intenal services?
Since one drive and excel online use Azure Active Directory, I would think it would be email as your id. Just thinking out loud...here.
PingID could block it yes.
