FetchDatasets was unsuccessful

Multiple users all began experiencing the same error in Excel when inserting a pivot table or using Get Data from the Power BI service, myself included.  Browsed forums and see many others have the same problem.  This is clearly a systemic issue on Microsoft's end, and it is preventing our business from using Power BI as designed.  Can someone from MSFT please advise?

Hi, @rsaccone

Here are things to keep in mind for connecting to Power BI datasets in Excel:

  • Analyzing Power BI data in Excel is supported for Microsoft Excel 2010 SP1 and later.
  • Your dataset in Power BI must have pre-defined measures. Excel PivotTables don't support drag-and-drop aggregation of numeric fields.
  • Analyzing Power BI data in Excel requires that the dataset be in a Power BI Premium workspace or that you have a Power BI Pro or Premium Per User (PPU) license.
  • You have to have permission for the underlying dataset if you want to connect to Power BI datasets in Excel. You could have this permission in a few ways. You could have the Member role in the workspace containing the dataset, or have Build permission for a dataset in a workspace or in an app that contains the dataset.
  • You can only analyze Power BI data in Excel on computers running Microsoft Windows.

You can also refer to the following document, which I hope will help you.

Thanks for your response, but none of these general suggestions are relevant to the problem I described.  Others at Microsoft have already responded and confirmed that this is a service issue affecting multiple customers.
