Failed refresh of dataset with PowerBiDataflow: Operation is not valid due to the current status...

Hi,

We are testing dataflows to be used as a datasource for a specific set of tables of our powerbi solution. In one of those tests, the dataset that normally refreshed in 20 -30 minutes, was hung working for more than 2 hours, until was raised the following error:

Data source error: DataSource.Error: <pii>An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.'</pii>. DataSourceKind = <pii>PowerPlatformDataflows</pii>. DataSourcePath = <pii>PowerPlatformDataflows</pii>. . The exception was raised by the IDataReader interface. Please review the error message and provider documentation for further information and corrective action.

Due we are thinking on using it on a production set, we have our doubts about what is the meaning of this error (there is no online documentation about it) and how to correct it. Particularly, we are migrating from a SQL Server DWH to a mixed dataflow solution, but having no possiblility of control this kind of operations, we are unsure about what to do. When (rare) errors appears in our current setup, we simply turn off the gateway and the complete refresh operation is cancelled. But with dataflow we have no ways to control its availability, so the refreshes could run indefinitely.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Alexis

Hi, @aechague

I'd like to suggest you check if the data source's status is ok. The error message usually means the file is corrupted. You may try to start from scratch after you have checked the data source.

Dataset refreshes will be canceled after 5 hours.  I think there's a similar limit for dataflows.
