Error in Power BI while connecting to combined or virtual cube

Hi,

Getting error in Power BI for a simple count distinct field while connecting to a combined cube. E.g. No. of sales (count distinct done in BI4 dynamics) along with date and company dimensions.

While same is working fine if we take the No. of sales from Sales cube instead of combined cube (combined cube is Sales and Inventory combined cube). Other measures from the combined cube is working fine, only the count distinct is not working. Any clue anyone?

Error Message:
Internal error: An unexpected error occurred (file 'mdquerypart.cpp', line 1330, function 'MDQueryLinkedDetailJob::OnData').

Hi @Anonymous ,

What version of Power BI Desktop do you use?

What is the connect mode?

And what is the version of Power BI Desktop (32-bit or 64-bit)?

Could you please provide more detail information or screenshots? It will be helpful.

Best regards,

Hi,

Please find below detail:

Versjon: 2.85.681.0 64-bit (september 2020)

Connecting to SQL server Analysis server database.

Reports are based on cubes created in BI4 Analytics.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

Do you use the Live connect mode?

Maybe you can create a new pbix file and connect your data source, select the import mode. Then try the measures again.

If it works in import mode, maybe the live connect mode doesn’t support some functions in your measure.

Perhaps you can create the measure in your data source mode, then connect it.

If it doesn’t meet your requirement, we suggest you to open a ticket here for help: https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/support/

Thanks for the response.

Yes I am using Live connect mode.

Tried with Import mode and it is working fine.

Seems like the count distinct measure is working fine in Live connect mode if using One cube i.e. Sales cube but giving error while using combined/virtual cube.

Looks like bug or some limitations?

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

It was working fine in import mode, so the Live connect doesn’t support a certain measure.

Perhaps you can create the measure in your data source mode, then connect it.

Or maybe you can refer this thread to install the latest Service pack for your SSAS.

Thanks for your response.

But the same measure is working fine in Live connect mode if I connect to the particular cube i.e. Sales cube.

It is giving error when connecting to the combined cube i.e. sales and invntory cube.

So the issue seems to be only with the combined cube but not with standalone cube.

Thanks

One more point: It is working fine while connecting from SSMS (same measure, same combined cube). Only issue while using Power BI for same.
