Error Message when Refreshing Dataset

I am getting the below error message when datasets are refreshing.  Looking at the dataset in the service I see a a status of the gateway of "Running on PBI".  I can refresh from the desktop app and publish the dataset with new data, but the scheduled refreshes are all failing.  It has also been refreshing fine for the past several weeks.  This is also occurring with another dataset I have.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Last refresh failed: Sun Feb 16 2020 04:44:54 GMT-0700 (MST)
The on-premises data gateway's service account failed to impersonate the user.

Hi, @Razorbx13

Based on my research, the FailedToImpersonateUserException happens if you're unable to impersonate on behalf of another user. This error could also happen if the account you're trying to impersonate is from another domain than the one the gateway service domain is on. This is a limitation. You may try the following solutions:

  • Verify that the configuration is correct as per the steps in the previous "ImpersonationLevel" section.
  • Ensure that the user ID it's trying to impersonate is a valid Active Directory account.

Hi,

Usually this error comes because of the wrong username password or the access issues.

Could you please check below points :

  • As you stated it worked perfectly on the desktop. Publish the report and navigate to the Datasource settings.
  • If you are using a data source which uses the domain name ensure you do the same on the Dataset ( domain\username)
  • Can you please ensure this Data Source crentials has no issues too.

P.S. > I had the same issue where I have used username and password on the gateway but need to update that to Domain\username . Hope this helps.

Regards

Mahak
