Enterprise Gateway mapped network drive with other credentials issue

Hi,

we have installed gateway that works with any local file. Once we put datasource to be file on mapped network folder error shows up. That mapped network folder is from another server and is protected with password. In gateway settings we have put my username and password (to access the the computer) for network folder datasource but that network folder has different username and password. I am guessing that's the problem? How to put credentials for network folder in gateway datasource?

Error we get (###->hidden):

Hi, @Anonymous

According to your description, you said that the network folder has a different username and password, I think that is the main reason for this problem.

To put credentials for the network folder into the gateway data source, I think the credential should be a domain account that has got access to that folder, for example:

UserName: MyDomain\UserAccount

Password: MyPassword

To make sure the dataset can be refreshed successfully, here are some more suggestions you can take:

  1. Please make sure these points: the gateway is online, the data source setting is correct, and the schedule refresh configuration is correct.
  2. You may check the different privacy level settings in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service. Make sure you have the same privacy level security:

In Power BI Desktop:

Options and Settings --> Data Source Settings

For every Datasource: -->  Edit Permissions

Set Privacy Level: e.g. „Organizational“

  1. You may export the data gateway log by selecting Diagnostics and then selecting the Export logs link near the bottom of the page. Reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem-tshoot#tools-for-troubleshooting.
  2. Data refresh can also fail due to expired cached credentials. Clear your internet browser cache by going signing into Power BI and going to https://app.powerbi.com?alwaysPromptForContentProviderCreds=true. This forces an update of your credentials.

You can refer to these links that have the same issue as yours:

If you still have this issue for Power BI, you'd better create a support ticket in Power BI Support to get further help.

Hi,

thank you for answering.

We have tried both credentials (my username and username that we used for creating network folder that we got from our partners whose server is (azure)) and it still doesn't work in Power BI Gateway Settings.

In Power BI Desktop it works normally just with using my credentials.
