Effective username doesn't change

Hi Experts,

I am using SSAS tabular model to show/hide column for specific users. So i defined 2 Roles in this SSAS DB, Client 1 and Client 2. I added myself in role of Client 1 and added a colleague of mine in Client 2 role group. Also i am admin of this SSAS server.

Now, on the power BI side i created a report using this SSAS data source and published the report on Power BI service.

Also i created a Enterprise gateway so that others can access this dataset/report. For this gateway i added my account to do all refresh operations as i am SSAS server admin.

Now, ideally if my colleague refreshes this dataset his username should be passed as EffectiveUsername to the SSAS db but using SQL Profiler i see the effective username is mine always. I am in total dilemma why this is happening.

I did the same thing as said in this video: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-enterprise-manage-ssas#role-based-security

I don't know what am i missing here.

Please help.

Sounds like you are using import versus Direct Query, correct? If that is the case, the refresh will use the stored credentials in the data connection.

DAX is easy, CALCULATE makes DAX hard...

By Direct query to mean "Connect Live" ? I don't remember what i selected because i thought it didn't matter.

Should i create new report using "Connect Live" ?

Regards,

Amar

Selecting Live connection or Import doesn't help. It still sending my username as EffectiveUsername when my colleague is refreshing the dataset through his account.

I am still dealing with why this is not working also, i did a trick in "Map Users" section of my Gateway connection settings in Power BI service, where i replaced my user name with my colleague's and the SQL profiler shows this update when i refresh the dataset. But I still don't see the change. I don't get why.

So now i see 2 issues,

1) Passing appropriate Effective Username to SSAS server when refreshing dataset

2) And SSAS server displaying only permitted columns to the user based on the Effective Username passed.

Please help.
