Edit only report but not dataset

Hello everyone,

I'm struggling about a requirement from my client.
An end user should be able to modify the existing report (about the form)  on PowerBI service but SHOULDN'T be able to modify the dataset. I checked the "Contributor" role but it allows the user to access and modify the dataset. Having any ideas ?

Regards,

Hi, @hyugo_v

As a workaround, you can try follow steps to create a copy of report with dataset that is not editable

1.Create a new worksapce and assign user to the Contributor role.

2.Save a copy of  your original report to this new workspace

3.When users access the copy of the report in the new workspace, they may get an error message as below:

so you need to go to your original workspace->dataset ->dataset permission->add use

After that ,user can view/edit the copy of report without dataset.

hi @hyugo_v - An efficient way of developing and sharing reports is by splitting the report and dataset into seperate pbix files. This way you can provide access to the report file to which User can make edits and data set would be a seperate file which the user would not typically open based on how you are sharing the report - direct link or App.

You can refer to the below video on steps to seperate an existing report to seperate report & dataset files:
