Downloaded report from Power Bi service contains old parameter value

Hi Guys,

I am publishing a .pbix file created in Power Bi desktop to power Bi service by API's/manually. I am using Azure blob for datasets and everything is working fine. I am using parameters to hold the dataset name, so that changing parameter values would change datasets. So, in power Bi service after changing parameter, once I refresh dataset manually or by api, I can see dataset values changed and also report visuals changed as per new dataset. But, when I download or export the report as .pbix file and open it through Power Bi desktop, I still see the old dataset value in the parameter!!..Really strange!

Any help on this would be appreciated!

Hi there

What I think might happen is that the original parameter is stored as part of the PBIX.

When you upload and make changes to the parameters in the Power BI Service they are applied seperately.

The reason for this is that the PBIX is actually made up of multiple components which are taken apart when uploaded to the Power BI Service. When it is all put back together again to download I am going to assume it takes the original version of parameters and applies them.

Hey Gilbert,

Thanks for the reply. Looks exactly like what you think and even I believe it takes the original/default values of parameters. But, is there any way to have current parameter values in the downloaded pbix file?

Hi there

As far as I know there is no way to get the current parameters as part of the downloaded PBIX
