Does Power BI Service and Power BI Desktop versions have to match

I am building a visualization report using the Power BI Desktop. I then plan to send the pbix file to a colleague to upload to the Power BI Service and assign it to an app workspace. Does the Power BI Serice version have to match a specific Power BU desktop version like it does in the Power BI Report Server? If so, our Power BI Service is version13.0.6199.204, what version of Power BI Desktop should I use to design the reports in?

Hi there,

When uploading to the Power BI Service, it is ideal to have the latest version of Power BI Desktop installed.

With that said it will not impact the uploading of the file to the service.

I take from your response that the version of the Desktop does not have to be matched to a specific version of the Service but it is best practice to use the latest version of Desktop to utilize the latest functionality upgrades. That being said, one should also try to keep the latest version of the Service up to date as well.

Where can I find the a list of the Service updates to verify where we are in upgrade process?
