Displaying Data outside Power BI

Hi Everyone,

Looking to see how other people are approaching the use of data outside of Power BI.

As amazing as the PBI is as its own platform and compared to its competitors, i am finding it tough to satisfy many users, only due to the fact that the data cant easily be shared outside of Power BI. Unfortunately many organisations and its users still refuse to grasp anything that cant be printed or excel base.

Hopefully some of you have come across the below and have some alterative solutions:

1. I am trying to send a Power BI Report to business users by Email:

- I know this is available from PBI Subscriptions in the service, however the quality is really poor.

- Also, we are restricted to only being able to share a single page from PBI, rather then multiple pages as an attachement to email.

- Only a .PNG can be attached as email and no other options such as PDF.

- The KPI visual when used in Subscription, does not show the elements 'Goal' and 'Variance'

Possible Solution:

- I am looking at Non Microsoft PBI applications that offer this functionality.

Solution Limitation:

- Not an internal PBI Functionality

2. Export a Pivot or Matrix in Excel as it displays in Power BI:

- Users would not accept a Power BI Report (Matrix/Pivot) that cannot be extracted into Excel as it displays in Power BI.

Possible Solution: -

- Instead of Excel, export to PowerPoint instead and Print. This keeps the Matrix/Pivot to display as it does in Power BI.

Solution Limitation:

- This will not be excel format, therefore only a screenshot which will miss any data if report needs to be scrolled and cant be modified in excel.

- The KPI visual when exported to PowerPoint, does not show the elements 'Goal' and 'Variance'

3. Printing a Matrix from Power BI, removes the conditional fomratting such as Row Colours:

- When trying to print directly from PBI Cloud, the Matrix looses its fomratting and chnages colour.

Possible Solution: -

Again, export to PowerPoint instead of Excel and Print. This keeps the Matrix/Pivot to display as it does in Power BI.

Solution Limitation:

Users cant just simply print their reports.

Any input would be much appreciated.

Thanks

PowerBI Robots definitely solves your problem number 1. You can send your reports as either images or PDF files to any email, in or outside your organization. They don't even need to be Power BI users.

Hi @Anonymous,

As you said, there still existing some limitations to exporting report data to other format outside Power BI. You could submit these feature request at ideas page to make product team aware of to help us improve the level of products.

Besides, would you please consider publishing report to web or embedding report into web application?  Then, you can directly share report content with others, recipients can view report without Power BI.

Best regards,

Yuliana Gu
