Detailed Lineage Data?

Coming from SAP BusinessObjects, one of the nicest features from an administrative perspective is the existence of add-ons that scrape the SQL queries from all reports on the server and store them in a table. This was key to conducting proactive impact analysis when changes were being made to tables in a database; we could easily query reports that utilize specific tables and fields.

Is there administrative functionality in the Power BI service - either native or through add-ons - that would allow us to see the SQL queries generated by every report or dataset, or even just the tables used in every report or dataset? All the better if it's in a single table. 🙂

The new lineage view doesn't quite do what we need, as it simply lists the aliased table and query names in a dataset, and it needs to be manually inspected dataset by dataset.

In case it's a factor, we're using an on-premises SQL Server database through a data gateway.

Hi there

If your queries are coming from your SQL Server database, I would suggest enabling SQL Server Profiler and logging all the queries into a table on your SQL Server to complete this.

Another option is you could possibly enable verbose logging on your On-Premise Gateway but this could potentially slow down your dataset refreshes.
