Deployment query

Hi all,

I have a doubt

  • If the data source is in cloud (like one drive or SharePoint), and the pbix created saved in locally, in this scenrio, if i will publish the Power BI report into Power BI service, will this require data gateway to be installed in local PC to enable the auto refresh. ?

Due to some constrain, i cant able to use OneDrive, so i had created .pbix using SharePoint excel data source. Now, i was bit confused, do i need gateway or not

Any help is appreicated

@vijayvizzu  if you do any changes to the excel file in sharepoint online then the data will be updated you dont have to republish the pbix

OR

You can also make use of schedule refresh option in power bi service

Note:If you are using onpremise source and dont want any gateway configuration you will have to republish the file even for a small change and i wont suggest this as it take lot of manual intervention

Hope it resolves your issue? Please consider accepting it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly.

@vijayvizzu If you are saving the excel in  Onedrive or Sharepoint online then you do not need gateway configuration .It depends from where your source(excel) is coming if its onpremise like desktop then you will need gateway configuration...

Thank you for the update.

In this scnerio, if i will update the .pbix (locally saved file), will it automatically update in the power bi service or do i need to re-publish it again ?
