Hi,
we have a pipeline with workspaces and we want to give write access to only one Dataset (Data Model).
How can i achieve this?
We have the role Model-Designer. We want to use Dataflows, Datasets (Model) and Thin reports (only Layout) to have different roles (Model Designer, Visualizers). But not every Data-Model-Designer should see every Dataset. I want to avoid to have x workspaces and pipelines for the different Datasets, and i find it good to have one place to see all the Shared Datasets. But currently this concept works only for Build-Option, but nor for the Write-Option.
There is an option for an Dataset to share it with write permission, but i can't see a way to republish or change this dataset.
"Allow allow recipients to modify this dataset: This option allows the recipients to modify the dataset."
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-datasets-share
"Write: Allows user to republish the dataset."
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/service-datasets-permissions
How can this Dataset then be changed by the user?
In Power BI Desktop he can not publish to the workspace because the user has no direct access to the workspace and i can also not see an option to upload the report.
In the Power BI Service a user can not change a Dataset Model?
So how can the user change only this Dataset? What additional permission required?
Or what additional architecture options i have?
Thanks
Hi @cathal ,
Datasets cannot be modified directly on Power BI Service.
You can download the shared dataset as a PBIX file, then open it in Desktop and modify it and republish to a workspace, noting that you must have at least the Contributor role for that workspace. If you do not have sufficient permissions, you cannot download PBIX or publish to the workspace.
Alternatively, you can make changes to the dataset through XMLA.
