Dataflows connection to web page fails with internal error

This is a known issue and there many other similar complaints about this issue occuring. It's time this got fixed!!

1. I'm trying to connect to a wikipedia page to extract country codes via a dataflow. What credentials should I provide for the on-premises gateway? I have tried my gateway admin account, I have tried the windows server account on which the gateway is installed. I always get a credential error. So what credential am I supposed to provide? It makes sense that the credential will fail because that wikipedia page is not a data source on gateway... or is it... or should it be? How?

2. Regardless of what credential I do provide, how is the on-premises gateway going to then serve the content? Is my gateway going to connect to the wikipedia page to extract the data? Why does the webservice not just do that extract directly? Why the extra step to go via the the gateway? I understand this for the Web API, but for a public web page... why?

hi, @HBI

The web connector does require on-premises data gateway. You can see: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-gateway-onprem#list-of-available-data-source-types

When I create the dataflow connect to a wikipedia page, It also occurs the error.

and you can go to Manage Gateways create the web source firstly,

then create a data flow entity and choose this gateway, It works well.
