Dataflow automatically detecting new files in folder

Hey y'all

Do any of you know whether there exists the capacity or a method on how you can automatically have an .xls (Excel) files that are continuously being added in a folder - be integrated in a dataflow under 1 data source connection?

Bit of a loaded question so here's an example: I have a dataflow with 3 other entities, I want to add a new entity (an Excel file), and going forward I want the dataflow to dynamically pick up new .xls files like this that are being added in this folder.

Not sure if there is a pragmatic solution here, whether its a complicated build, or where it flat out doesnt work... Appreciate someone steering me in the right direction here.

Hi @Anonymous ,

You may upload the excel file folder to SharePoint online, then connect to the data using SharePoint folder connector in Power BI Desktop, use the URL below and use organizational account method.  See more: Connecting to Files in SharePoint & OneDrive with Power BI / Power Query.

https://xxxxx.sharepoint.com/sites/<sitename>  .

In Dataflow of Power BI Service, select Blank Query, copy and paste the M query codes which are from the Advanced Editor in Query Editor of Power BI Desktop into the Blank Query.

yes, just like you do in Power Bi desktop - use the folder connector (file folder or sharepoint folder) and then apply filters that select the file patterns you want without specifying the individual file names directly.
